Arrived late February in France and incorporated the 7th (Meerut) Division.

Battle of Neuve-Chapelle. (10 March)

Battle of Aubers.(9 May) Starting from Blackadder Trench and Crescent Trench, the bataillon attacked openly and lost 160 men, mostly at the beginning of assault.

Battle of Loos (Aubers ridge).

Givenchy.

1916

The battalion was amalgamated with the 5th Battalion to form the 4th/5th Battalion.

Formation at Abroath in August 1914.

Appointed to the 8th Division (24th Brigade) in November. Sector of Neuve-Chapelle.

1915

Battle of Neuve-Chapelle (10-12 March) In support, lost 90 men.

Battle of Aubers ridge. (9 May) Lost 150 men.

Battle of Loos (Aubers ridge).

Givenchy.

October : become the pioneers unit of its division.

1916

The battalion was amalgamated with the 4th Battalion to form the 4th/5th Battalion.

 

4th/5th Battalion

1916

Battle of the Somme. (118th Brigade, 39th Division) Attacked in front Beaucourt on 3 September. Objective was taken but must be evacuated later. Lost 200 hommes.

Thiepval. Attack and taking of Schwaben Redoubt. Held the conquered positions against fierce counter-attacks. Lost nearly 300 men (14-15 October).

13 November : attack and taking of Saint-Pierre Divion. The losses amounted to 150 men.

1917

Third Battle of Ypres. Attacked during the first day of the battle (31 July). Advanced 1 300 meters as far as Steenbeck river through Kitchener Wood.

Battle of Polygon Wood. Attack in front Gheluvelt (26 September).

1918

German Offensives. Arras sector.

April : attack on Buzancy.
